Life is hectic in a world with a toddler and a newborn; I'm finally starting to catch up with it!
Elliot Corbin was born on Feb. 12 at 8:50am. It was a relatively quick delivery as far as things go. My water broke at about 12:30 am - we called the neighbour to come over and stay with Payton and were off to the hospital. When we got there they asked how far my contractions were apart and I looked at the nurse and said 'I'm not sure, I haven't been timing'! Ahhh, I was definately more relaxed the second time around! After timing a few, I determined that they were about 4 min. apart and not really that strong. I was given the option to go home and come back when they were stronger or be put on an oxytocin drip to speed things along...I took the drip - I didn't really want to go home and spend the day in labour while taking care of a toddler! Anyway, by the time they got me on the drip it was about 5 in the morning. After that things went pretty quickly. I managed to stay off the drugs but opted to say yes to the laughing gas - wonderful stuff by the way! The pushing faze went REALLY fast...after about 7 pushing contractions I was totally hot and needed to take off my gown. The doctor had just left saying 'call me when baby looks like it's coming' and the nurse was trying to unhook my gown over my IV when I had another contraction. Well, they tell you to push when you feel the contraction so I go ahead and push and start screaming at the poor nurse that the baby is coming NOW! She says I don't think so, I say yes it is and low and behold, she looks down and the baby is crowning. She tells me not to push (much easier said than done) and is yelling for the doctor. She gets Ryan to push the call button for someone to come help, as she is the only one in the room, and is meanwhile holding the baby in place. The doctor gets there ASAP and baby is delivered moments later. Makes for a pretty funny story!
Anyway, he is healthy and wonderful. So far he is a pretty content baby, although when he wants something he wants it five minutes ago - paitience may not be his strong suit.
